Study Reveals Potential HIV Drug Could Reduce Alzheimer’s Risk
A new study led by researchers at the University of Virginia (UVA) has found that nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), a type of antiviral medication used to treat HIV, could significantly reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. The research, published in the journal Alzheimer’s & Dementia, analyzed 24 years of health insurance data from 270,000 patients and found that individuals taking NRTIs experienced a 10% annual decrease in their risk of developing the common form of dementia.
