Valve has released SteamOS 3.7.8, a major update that extends official support to AMD-powered handhelds such as the Lenovo Legion Go and Asus ROG Ally. This update introduces a dedicated ‘Steam OS Compatible’ library tab, allowing users to easily access supported games and applications. It also includes several key improvements, including a battery charge limit feature, updated graphics drivers, and a transition to the Plasma 3 desktop environment (6.2.5). According to Polygon, Valve has outlined specific requirements for third-party devices to run SteamOS: they must be powered by AMD processors and equipped with an NVMe SSD. Previously, users had to rely on alternative solutions like Bazzite to achieve a similar experience, but the new update provides a more streamlined and officially supported option. The company has also expanded its Steam Deck Verified categorization system to include any device running SteamOS that is not a Steam Deck. As a result, a SteamOS-powered version of the Lenovo Legion Go S is set to launch on May 25, offering users a broader range of options for portable gaming.
