Three more individuals who escaped from a New Orleans jail have been captured, marking progress in the ongoing manhunt for the remaining fugitives. Lenton Vanburen, Leo Tate, and Jermaine Donald were taken into custody on Monday, with Vanburen arrested in Baton Rouge and Tate and Donald apprehended in Texas after a high-speed chase. Authorities have confirmed the recapture of eight out of the initial ten inmates who fled on May 16.
Vanburen was initially incarcerated for charges including parole violation, possession of a firearm by a felon, and illegal carrying of a weapon. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill noted that he will now face additional charges related to his escape. Tate and Donald, who were arrested in Walker County, Texas, led law enforcement through a high-speed pursuit before being captured. Donald faces charges of second-degree murder and aggravated battery, while Tate was charged with multiple offenses including burglary, weapon possession, and drug-related crimes.
