United Airlines, based in Chicago, has announced a new policy that will take effect on June 3, extending the domestic flight check-in cutoff to 45 minutes before departure. This change is part of the airline’s effort to align with industry standards and streamline processes for travelers. The international check-in deadline remains unchanged at one hour. Travelers are advised to arrive at least two hours before their domestic flights and three hours before international departures to ensure they have ample time for check-in and security procedures.
The updated check-in policy is expected to reduce last-minute complications for passengers and improve the overall travel experience. The airline’s spokesperson stated, “The change brings greater consistency for our customers by aligning with our current checked baggage deadline and the check, in policies followed by most other airlines.” This adjustment also simplifies the process for passengers who have checked bags, as the cutoff time for baggage check-in is set at the same time as the flight check-in.
Alongside this change, the airline is reminding travelers about the REAL ID requirements, which took effect on May 7. Passengers are required to present a REAL ID, a valid U.S. passport, or other approved forms of identification for domestic travel. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is encouraging passengers to obtain this ID or bring an alternative form of acceptable identification to avoid delays. Those who do not have an acceptable form of ID may face additional screening, which could cause inconvenience during travel.
The new check-in policy is part of a broader effort by United Airlines to enhance the customer experience and adapt to the evolving needs of travelers. By extending the check-in window, the airline aims to provide more flexibility and reduce stress for passengers during the busy summer travel season. This change also reflects the airline’s commitment to aligning with industry best practices and improving operational efficiency.
Travelers are encouraged to review the updated check-in times and adhere to the recommended arrival times to ensure a smooth and stress-free travel experience. The airline’s spokesperson emphasized the importance of following these guidelines to minimize potential delays and ensure a seamless journey from the moment passengers arrive at the airport to their departure.
