CD Projekt Red Advances Cyberpunk 2 Development

CD Projekt Red, the Polish video game developer known for its critically acclaimed titles such as The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, has officially moved its sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 from a conceptual stage into preproduction. The project, which had been codenamed ‘Project Orion’ since its announcement in 2022, is now being referred to as Cyberpunk 2. This name change, however, was clarified by the studio’s senior PR manager, Ola Sondej, who stated that ‘Cyberpunk 2’ is not an official title but rather an indicator that it’s the next game within the Cyberpunk universe.

The game, which has a team of 96 developers working on it as of April 30th, has not released much information about its plot or features. However, the studio has described it as ‘the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe.’ During an investor call, joint CEO Michal Nowakowski confirmed that the game will be delivered ‘in due time,’ although no official release date has been announced. Despite the lack of concrete details, the announcement has been received positively by fans and investors, who are eagerly awaiting the next installment in the Cyberpunk series.

The game’s development is being closely watched, particularly due to the challenges that accompanied the release of the original Cyberpunk 2077. The sequel’s progress serves as a testament to the studio’s commitment to maintaining the quality and depth of its games. As the project moves forward, CD Projekt Red will need to ensure that Cyberpunk 2 is as ambitious and innovative as its predecessor while also meeting the high expectations of its fans.
