The U.S. conservative watchdog group, the American Principles Project (APP), has accused Planned Parenthood of exploiting a so-called ‘massive loophole’ in the definition of contraception to provide transgender hormone therapy to minors without parental consent. In a new report, the group claims that Planned Parenthood affiliates, including its Mar Monte chapter, are using legal ambiguities to offer gender-affirming care to minors without requiring parental approval, particularly in states such as California and Nevada. The APP argues that these practices represent an ideological push to reshape societal norms, with the group calling the tactics ‘downright disgusting.’
The report cites examples such as a 14-year-old biological female who was given hormonal birth control to suppress her menstrual cycle, as part of a broader effort to manage gender dysphoria. According to the case study from Seattle Children’s Hospital, the treatment led to improved mental health for the young patient, even though the individual did not fully transition to a male. The Endocrine Society also notes that certain types of birth control can suppress testosterone production, making them a potential means of gender transition for individuals who do not wish to experience the effects of testosterone. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood asserts that its services operate under the highest medical standards, rejecting allegations of illegal activity and emphasizing the importance of providing safe and legal healthcare to all who seek it.
