Air Force Cadet’s Tragic Death and Full Military Funeral Honor

Ava Moore, an 18-year-old Air Force cadet candidate from Texas, was tragically killed during a kayaking trip on Lake Grapevine during the early part of Memorial Day weekend. She was allegedly struck by a jet ski operated by an illegal immigrant, an event that has sparked significant public interest and concern. Moore, who was set to begin cadet training at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in a few weeks, was honored with a full military funeral, an occasion typically reserved for active-duty military members and others who have served honorably in the military.

The military ceremony, which included the playing of Taps, the folding of the flag, and a flag presentation to Moore’s family, was held on Saturday, as reported by The Dallas Morning News. Moore was set to become a part of the USAFA Class of 2029 after she graduated from the Air Force Academy Preparatory School on May 19, 2025. Her death has prompted statements from U.S. Air Force Academy officials, with Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind expressing his condolences and highlighting Moore’s positive impact on her teammates and squadron.

The investigation into the incident has led to the arrest of two illegal immigrants from Venezuela, who are accused of the crime and fleeing the scene. Both have been charged with various offenses, with Gonzalez-Gonzalez facing second-degree manslaughter charges and Perozo accused of a collision and hindering apprehension. The suspects are currently in jail, with immigration authorities placing detainers on them for potential deportation after their legal proceedings are resolved.
