A chaotic protest in Minneapolis unfolded as elected officials posted misleading information online, leading to a confrontation between federal agents and demonstrators. Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt criticized the ‘highly irresponsible’ posts, warning they could potentially incite riots. The situation escalated when federal agents were seen getting physical with protesters in the streets of the city. Minnesota State Sen. Omar Fateh claimed on Facebook that the operation was a ‘blatant fascism on display,’ asserting that the presence of DHS, ICE, FBI, Sheriffs, and MPD was an indication of such tactics. However, the operation was actually related to a criminal search warrant for drugs and money laundering at a Mexican restaurant, with no arrests made, according to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt expressed disappointment that officials did not take the time to verify facts before making public statements, as this could cause more harm to communities.
