Aaron Rodgers joins Pittsburgh Steelers, but concerns remain
Aaron Rodgers has officially signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, joining the team on a one-year deal. Despite his Hall of Fame credentials, former Steelers’ player Ryan Clark expressed strong reservations about the move, calling it the team’s ‘worst-case scenario’. The Steelers had been actively pursuing Rodgers throughout the offseason, but Clark believes the signing does not bode well for the team’s championship aspirations.
Although the Steelers did not select a highly-touted quarterback in the NFL Draft, they did draft Will Howard in the sixth round. Clark argues that the team is still far from contending for a championship and may continue to struggle in the playoffs. The Steelers are reportedly looking for a franchise quarterback, and the signing of Rodgers does not seem to align with that goal.
Rodgers has had a strong finish to his 2024 campaign despite dealing with some nagging injuries in the beginning. Through his final 10 games with New York, he threw for 18 touchdowns and only four interceptions. However, Rodgers will turn 42 in December, and while he hopes to be in playoff position with the third NFL team in his Hall of Fame career, the challenges ahead are significant.
The Steelers also made significant roster changes, trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys and acquiring DK Metcalf from the Seahawks. With these additions, the Steelers are hoping to strengthen their offense and give Rodgers the support needed to succeed. Despite the optimism, many are skeptical about the odds of the Steelers contending for a championship with the current roster and coaching staff.
