Ex-NFL Cornerback Kelvin Joseph Charged in Fatal Crash

Former NFL cornerback Kelvin Joseph has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor B) and Collision Involving Death (2nd Degree Felony) following a fatal motorcycle crash in Dallas, Texas. The incident, which occurred on the early hours of Saturday on North Central Expressway, resulted in the death of 27-year-old motorcyclist Cody Morris. Police reported that Joseph was observed with signs of intoxication during his arrest and confirmed his involvement in the collision.

Richardson Police Department announced on social media that Joseph reported his involvement in the crash. Officers contacted Joseph and determined he was northbound on North Central Expressway in a BMW sedan when he was involved in a collision with the motorcycle. During the encounter, officers observed signs of intoxication, leading to his arrest and charges. The crash has sparked concern among fans and teammates, given Joseph’s recent off-field troubles.

Joseph, 25, has been playing in the United Football League with the DC Defenders this spring. The UFL acknowledged his arrest in a statement to Dallas-area TV station WFAA but declined further comment. Joseph’s legal history includes an incident during the 2022 offseason when he was a passenger in a vehicle where two others fired shots into a group of men in Dallas, fatally striking a man in the head. While Joseph wasn’t the shooter, the NFL did not suspend him for the incident.

Joseph was a second-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2021 after playing for both LSU and Kentucky in college. He played 10 games his rookie year in Dallas (two starts) with 16 combined tackles and two passes defended. However, the 2022 offseason saw him face legal issues, which impacted his subsequent career moves. He played 16 games for Dallas in 2022, totaling 20 tackles with two passes defended and one forced fumble.

Since 2022, Joseph has bounced around between teams, spending time with the Miami Dolphins for four games and the Seattle Seahawks for one game. He then moved on to the Indianapolis Colts for just two games, marking the end of his NFL career. The recent crash adds to a pattern of legal and personal challenges, raising questions about the future of Joseph’s life and career outside football.

The incident has ignited discussions about player safety and the responsibilities of athletes beyond sports. As investigations continue, the community awaits further details and the outcome of this tragic event.
