Former Olympic champion Mary Lou Retton has publicly addressed her recent DUI arrest, accepting responsibility and issuing an apology to her fans and supporters. The 58-year-old gymnast, who was once dubbed ‘America’s sweetheart’ for her 1984 Olympic triumph, was arrested on May 17 in West Virginia following an incident involving a car that police reported was driving erratically. In a statement released through her attorney, Edmund J. Rollo, Retton admitted to the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances or drugs, expressing deep remorse for her actions.
