Jordan has evacuated 64 Palestinians, including seriously ill children, from Gaza under the Jordan Medical Corridor initiative. The evacuation included 16 children, 10 of whom are cancer patients, with the youngest being a 5-month-old baby suffering from severe malnutrition. The initiative, launched by King Abdullah II and announced during a White House meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump, aims to help civilians amid the ongoing conflict. Despite challenges such as Israeli restrictions and limitations with the World Health Organization, Jordan has managed to evacuate these patients, providing them with free medical treatment and housing in Amman. The evacuation was conducted at the Kerem Shalom crossing in Gaza, with some patients transported by helicopter from the Israel-Jordan border. Jordan’s King Abdullah II has spoken against discussions of forced displacement for Palestinians in Gaza, emphasizing the need for humanitarian aid and the protection of civilian lives. The initiative is part of a larger effort to evacuate 2,000 children from Gaza while continuing to provide medical aid to those still trapped. The evacuation highlights the complex challenges of providing humanitarian relief in the region, including the need for international cooperation and the ongoing security risks faced by aid workers and evacuees.
