Two Journalists Hacked with Paragon Spyware, Confirming Ongoing Surveillance Scandal
Researchers have confirmed that two European journalists, including Italian online news site Fanpage’s Ciro Pellegrino, were hacked using Paragon spyware. The findings, released by digital rights group The Citizen Lab, stem from a forensic investigation of Pellegrino’s iPhone and that of an unnamed prominent European journalist. The report asserts that both were targeted by the same Paragon customer, adding to the growing concern over the use of such surveillance tools by governments.
This development further intensifies an ongoing spyware scandal initially linked to Italian government use, potentially impacting other European nations as well. The revelation underscores the broader implications for digital privacy and press freedom amid heightened global tensions over state-sponsored cyber surveillance.
