UK universities and colleges have entered into a framework agreement with Oracle, totaling up to £9.86 million, to use the Java SE Universal Subscription model. This agreement includes a waiver of historical fees for any institutions that have used Oracle Java since 2023. The deal was negotiated by Jisc, a membership organization that manages procurement for higher and further education in the UK, following consultations with its members. According to the procurement notice, all institutions using Oracle Java SE are required to purchase subscription licenses.
