Charlamagne Criticizes Democrats for Hypocrisy Over Trump’s Iran Strikes

Radio host Charlamagne tha God has taken aim at Democrats for their current outrage over President Donald Trump’s Iran strikes, highlighting a perceived double standard. In a Monday commentary, he emphasized that previous Democratic leaders, such as President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden, had also authorized military actions without congressional approval. This critique comes amid a significant U.S. strike on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites, with General Dan Caine confirming the extensive damage.

Senator Mark Kelly, a Democrat, called for congressional authorization, arguing that the president should have initiated the process by seeking approval. However, Charlamagne argued that Democrats should hold themselves accountable for similar past actions, noting that such military decisions have become a routine practice for U.S. presidents, not just Trump. He highlighted Obama’s strikes in Libya and Biden’s actions in Iraq and Syria as examples of this trend.

The debate over presidential war powers has intensified, with some suggesting the issue could lead to impeachment. Charlamagne questioned why past incidents, such as Obama’s actions, did not result in similar calls for accountability. Co-host Morgyn V. Wood noted that while there have been calls for impeachment over previous military actions without congressional approval, Charlamagne was not persuaded. He recalled that while Obama’s actions drew criticism, Biden’s similar actions did not make headlines, suggesting a selective outrage.

After Wood mentioned the widespread outrage over Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, Charlamagne referenced an NBC News piece that highlighted the routine nature of presidents ordering military action without congressional approval. He noted that the public’s reaction to Trump’s strikes seems out of place compared to past instances, pointing to a potential double standard.
