The founder of the gaming-focused Bazzite project, Kyle Gospodnetich, has issued a public warning against Fedora’s decision to remove 32-bit support, stating that the initiative would have to shut down if the change is implemented. In a post, Gospodnetich expressed his frustration and concerns, highlighting that the change would be detrimental to both Bazzite and Fedora as a whole.
He argued that the proposed removal of 32-bit compatibility would disrupt the gaming experience for many users, especially those relying on tools like Steam. Gospodnetich added that the move would cause irreparable damage to Fedora’s PR image, as it has already led to widespread worry among users about compatibility issues. Additionally, he criticized the proposal, suggesting that it should be rescinded to minimize the harm to the project.
Gospodnetich also hinted at the potential for a separate discussion on the future of building architecture, which could reduce the number of 32-bit packages while still maintaining compatibility for projects like Bazzite. He concluded by stating, as the project’s founder, that the best course of action if the change is implemented would be to disband the team altogether.
