Authorities have released an image of the suspect in the Idaho firefighter ambush, identifying the firefighters who were killed and injured in the assault. Wess Roley, a 20-year-old suspect, was found dead near the scene, believed to have taken his own life following the brutal attack that claimed the lives of two firefighters and left another hospitalized.
The suspect, who was previously seen in a social media post wearing black face paint and camouflage, is believed to have deliberately set a brush fire on Canfield Mountain to lure first responders. The fire, which broke out on Sunday, was identified as the trigger for the ambush, with authorities confirming that the suspect possessed a Flint starter consistent with the ignition method used.
Firefighters responded to the blaze around 1:30 p.m., only to be met with gunfire shortly thereafter. Audio from the scene indicates an ongoing emergency situation, with a firefighter describing an active shooter and multiple casualties.
