On June 30, the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces released an official report detailing the extensive military losses suffered by Russia during its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022. The report states that over 1,020,010 Russian troops have been lost in Ukraine since the invasion began. These losses include not only combat fatalities but also casualties from the past day, with an additional 1,070 Russian soldiers killed or wounded.
Alongside the personnel losses, the report highlighted the significant depletion of Russian military assets. According to the General Staff, Russia has lost approximately 10,980 tanks, 22,922 armored fighting vehicles, 53,593 military vehicles and fuel tanks, 29,718 artillery systems, 1,427 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,190 air defense systems, 420 airplanes, 340 helicopters, 42,796 drones, 28 ships, and one submarine. These losses represent a critical blow to Russia’s military capabilities in the region.
The General Staff’s report underscores the severity of the conflict’s impact on Russian military resources and operations. The losses include not only direct combat losses but also equipment destroyed or damaged in battles and air strikes. This includes recent reports of Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian military installations in Crimea, where three Russian helicopters were reportedly destroyed. Additionally, the report notes the continued destruction of Russian military assets through a combination of offensive and defensive operations conducted by Ukrainian forces.
