Russian Forces Attack Evacuation Vehicle in Donetsk Oblast, Killing Civilian

The National Police reported that Russian forces attacked an evacuation vehicle carrying three wounded civilians in Donetsk Oblast, killing one of them, according to Ukraine’s National Police. The attack, which occurred on July 1, highlights the ongoing conflict in the region as Russian troops continue their offensive operations in the area.

The National Police reported that Russian forces attacked the evacuation vehicles provided by chaplains three times—once at the entrance to the city, once in the city center, and once during the evacuation of civilians from Pokrovsk. The police described the attacks as "targeted hunting" by Russian forces.

One injured person was picked up in the city, while the other two were evacuated to the hospital. However, one of the injured civilians could not be reached in time and died from blood loss. The police also reported that a Russian drone struck the vehicle, injuring one of the responding officers.

Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi noted that Russia has amassed "about 111,000 personnel" in the Pokrovsk sector, but Ukrainian forces are maintaining their position. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow is ready for a third round of peace talks with Kyiv.

Russia’s so-called "peace memorandum" demands that Ukraine recognize Russia’s annexation of Crimea, as well as Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk oblasts—none of which are fully under Moscow’s control. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges facing Ukrainian civilians in the conflict-torn region.
