Ukrainian Army Chief Orders Ban on Tent Camps Amid Russian Missile Threats

Ukrainian Army Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi has issued an urgent directive banning tent camps and the concentration of troops and military equipment at training facilities, citing the need to improve safety for soldiers in light of increasing Russian missile attacks.

The order, announced on July 1, comes in the wake of several deadly strikes on Ukrainian military training sites, including a recent incident on June 22 that killed three soldiers and injured 14 at a mechanized brigade’s training ground.

Syrskyi, addressing the situation on social media, stated that the concentration of personnel and equipment, as well as tent camping for soldiers, is now prohibited. He emphasized the need for strict adherence to shelter requirements at training centers and ranges, as well as the timely notification of air raid alerts.

The command follows a series of Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian military training facilities, which have resulted in numerous casualties and sparked public outrage. Former Ground Forces Commander Mykhailo Drapatyi had previously vowed to address the issue, but resigned after an attack on a shooting range in Sumy Oblast on May 20, which killed six soldiers and injured a dozen more.

Syrskyi acknowledged the need to construct new shelters and protective structures at training facilities, stating that these measures would help safeguard service members from potential future strikes.

While the military continues to face significant challenges from Russian attacks, Syrskyi’s directive reflects a growing recognition of the need to prioritize the safety of troops during training exercises.

Other recent developments indicate that Ukrainian forces have made progress in pushing back against Russian troops. According to the General Staff, Ukrainian troops advanced near the village of Oleksiivka and liberated the village of Andriivka. This indicates that despite the ongoing attacks on training facilities, the military is working to both defend its positions and advance in key areas.

With the situation remaining volatile, Syrskyi’s directive to enhance safety for troops at training centers underscores the challenges faced by the Ukrainian military in maintaining operational readiness while protecting its personnel from the escalating threat of Russian missile attacks.
