Biden Seeks to Reengage in Global Affairs Amid Calls for Comeback

Former US President Joe Biden, speaking at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) conference in San Diego on Wednesday, stated that he was receiving calls from a number of European leaders asking him to become more involved in global affairs. Despite his retirement from public office, Biden emphasized that he is not seeking a return to active political life, instead stating that he is ‘giving advice’ but avoiding direct involvement in international matters. He noted that although he is not actively engaged with NATO issues, he remains in contact with lawmakers from both parties, maintaining his political influence despite his official retirement.

Biden also voiced frustration over the rollback of several of his administration’s policies under former President Donald Trump. While he avoided mentioning his successor by name, he stated that many of the changes he had worked so hard to implement were reversing quickly. He emphasized that he was focused on completing a memoir about his four years in the White House, noting that he was ‘working like hell with a publisher to write another 500-page book.’

Following his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race due to concerns about his age and mental acuity, Biden officially withdrew from the contest in July 2024, endorsing his vice president, Kamala Harris, who lost the November vote to Trump. In May 2025, Biden revealed that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He continues to appear publicly and has expressed optimism about his chances of overcoming the disease.
