Russian Deputy Navy Commander Killed in Ukrainian Strike in Kursk

A Russian official confirmed that Major General Mikhail Yevgenyevich Gudkov, a deputy commander of Russia’s navy, was killed in a Ukrainian strike in Kursk Oblast on July 3. The attack, reportedly carried out by Ukrainian HIMARS systems, reportedly killed 22 people, including Gudkov and his deputy. Gudkov was appointed deputy commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy in March 2025 and had previously led the 155th Separate Marine Brigade, which Ukraine has accused of numerous war crimes.
