Ukraine’s General Staff Announces 1.023 Million Russian Troop Casualties Since Feb. 24, 2022

Ukraine’s General Staff has announced that Russia has suffered over 1 million troop casualties in Ukraine since the beginning of its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. This figure includes over 1,000 casualties reported just over the past day, according to a report released by the Ukrainian military. The report also outlines extensive losses for Russian military equipment, with the Ukrainian forces claiming to have destroyed 10,986 tanks, 22,936 armored fighting vehicles, 53,887 vehicles and fuel tanks, 29,815 artillery systems, 1,427 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,191 air defense systems, 420 airplanes, 340 helicopters, 43,098 drones, 3,436 cruise missiles, 28 ships and boats, and one submarine.

The report underscores the overwhelming scale of Russian military losses in Ukraine, which is now entering its third year of conflict. Since the invasion began, Ukraine has been fighting a protracted war that has claimed a significant toll on the Russian military. This is the first time the General Staff has officially released such a comprehensive report on the casualties and losses suffered by Russian forces.

In addition to the human toll, the Ukrainian military has also been documenting the destruction of Russian military assets. The report lists a wide range of equipment, from tanks and armored vehicles to drones and cruise missiles, indicating the intensity of the conflict and the scale of resistance mounted by Ukrainian forces. The figures represent a comprehensive tally of the material damage inflicted on the Russian military, reflecting the impact of Ukrainian defensive operations and the broader strategic efforts to counter Russian advances.

The release of this information comes amidst heightened tensions in the region. While the focus remains on the war in Ukraine, recent developments have seen escalating conflicts in other areas, including the Russia-Azerbaijan relationship, which has deteriorated sharply amid a series of incidents involving arrests and raids on media outlets. However, the Ukrainian military’s report is primarily centered on the losses suffered by Russian forces in the context of the ongoing war.
