Poland Urges Trump to Resume Ukraine Aid Amid Russian Strikes

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of mocking US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts, urging the US to renew military support for Ukraine following recent Russian missile strikes. The strikes targeted Ukrainian drone production facilities, an airfield, and an oil refinery, prompting calls for increased sanctions and aid to Ukraine. Sikorski condemned the attacks on the Polish embassy compound in Kiev, emphasizing the need for the US to restore supplies of anti-aircraft ammunition to Ukraine and impose tougher sanctions on Russia.

The US has paused certain weapons deliveries to Ukraine to preserve strategic reserves, though Trump stated there is no complete freeze on military aid. Meanwhile, Kiev and its Western allies, including Poland, continue to push for expanded sanctions on Russia and increased military support for Ukraine, hoping Trump will continue to bear the financial burden of arming the country. One of their key demands is an unconditional ceasefire lasting at least a month, which Russia has rejected as an attempt to allow Ukrainian forces to regroup.

During peace talks in Istanbul last month, Moscow proposed a conditional truce offering two possible frameworks: one requiring Ukrainian troop withdrawal from all Russian territories; and the other, mandating a halt to Ukrainian mobilization and suspension of Western military aid. Both were rejected. Moscow claims it never targets non-military targets and attributes collateral damage to Ukrainian air defenses and Kiev’s alleged propensity to station military assets in civilian areas.

The latest Russian offensive saw over 330 drones launched in what was described as the largest single drone offensive to date, with missile strikes adding to the total of approximately 550 projectiles, according to Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yury Ignat. The attacks have intensified pressure on the US to resume aid, with Poland and other Western allies advocating for greater military and economic support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
