During a holiday weekend in New Jersey, fighter jets from the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) intercepted 11 unauthorized aircraft that entered restricted airspace surrounding President Trump’s location. The incidents occurred over the weekend, with multiple civilian planes violating the temporary flight restrictions (TFR) in place to protect the President. NORAD officials emphasized the importance of adhering to FAA regulations and the necessity of pilots familiarizing themselves with NOTAMs to avoid such violations.
At around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, a civilian plane violated the TFR and was safely escorted out of the area by a NORAD aircraft. General Gregory Guillot, Commander of NORAD and US Northern Command, stated that NORAD and the Federal Aviation Administration aim to keep the skies over America safe, with close attention paid to areas with Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR) to ensure flight safety, national security, and the security of the President. He also warned that the excessive number of TFR violations this weekend indicates some civil aviators are not reading Notice to Airmen, or NOTAMs, before each flight as required by the FAA.
Additional incidents occurred on Saturday, with an aircraft being safely escorted out of the TFR airspace just before 2:40 p.m., after a standard
