Ukraine Urges Evacuation After Russian Attacks Kill 5 in Donetsk Oblast

Russian forces launched devastating attacks on the front-line towns of Kostiantynivka and Druzhkivka in Donetsk Oblast on July 6, killing five civilians and injuring one. Governor Vadim Filashkin reported the casualties and devastation, highlighting the damage to 14 homes, four high-rise buildings, and critical infrastructure. The attacks, which included airstrikes, missiles, and a first-person-view drone, have left both towns under constant enemy fire. Filashkin has issued an urgent evacuation order, urging residents to seek safety in other regions of Ukraine.

According to Filashkin, the attacks in Kostiantynivka resulted in four deaths and one injury, with extensive damage to residential and public buildings. In Druzhkivka, a Russian FPV drone killed one person and damaged equipment. The governor emphasized that the situation remains dire, with Kostiantynivka on the brink of a humanitarian crisis. This comes after weeks of intensified Russian attacks in the region, as Moscow continues its offensive westward.

Filashkin’s warnings underscore the escalating conflict in Donetsk Oblast. The area, already a battleground, faces increasing pressure from Russian forces, with the front lines shifting closer to inhabited areas. The governor’s call for evacuation reflects the growing desperation of local authorities as they struggle to protect civilians. Filashkin’s previous reports highlighted the imminent risk of a humanitarian catastrophe, with the town’s proximity to occupied territories making it a prime target for sustained attacks.

Ukraine’s military leadership has also expressed concern about the situation. Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi recently warned of new Russian offensives in the northeast, including the Kharkiv Oblast region. The ongoing conflict has placed immense strain on Ukrainian resources and infrastructure, with both the military and civilian populations bearing the brunt of the violence. As the war continues, the need for international support and aid remains paramount.
