Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. Buzz autonomous van, a significant step toward driverless transportation, designed to meet the needs of public transit agencies and corporate fleets. The vehicle features SAE Level 4 autonomy, with 13 cameras, nine LiDAR units, and five radars providing a 360-degree view of its surroundings.
Volkswagen’s mobility brand MOIA partnered with Hamburg and Uber for 2026 deployments, aiming to address growing driver shortages and enhance urban mobility. The ID. Buzz targets companies and public transit agencies rather than individual ride-hailing, with a focus on scalable, clean, and connected solutions. The van’s design incorporates user-friendly features like smartphone unlock and dedicated emergency buttons, emphasizing convenience and safety.
The partnership with Mobileye integrates trusted self-driving technology, supporting the van’s operations, passenger support, and real-time logistics. MOIA’s AD MaaS platform ensures a complete, turnkey solution for cities and companies. With deployments in Hamburg and Los Angeles planned by 2026, Volkswagen is positioning itself as a key player in the autonomous mobility race, aiming to redefine future urban transport.
