Outgoing Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon has expressed interest in potential future roles beyond his current position. While he will not seek re-election, he is open to other capacities of public service, including the possibility of serving as governor or even president. Bacon noted that he is not planning to run against existing Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen, who took office in 2023.
Bacon mentioned that he is interested in a role as Secretary of Defense, however, he is unsure if a GOP president would choose him. He stated that if God opens that door, he would be willing to serve in that capacity. Bacon’s potential future endeavors have not been officially confirmed, but he has made his interest known to the public.
