9 Killed, 81 Injured in Russian Attacks on Ukraine Over Past Day

Ukraine’s Air Force confirmed that Russia launched 54 drones, including Iranian-designed Shahed-type attack drones, and four S-300/400 guided missiles overnight. At least nine civilians were killed and 81 others injured in Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past 24 hours, regional authorities reported on July 8.

The attacks targeted multiple locations, with significant casualties in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Sumy, Kherson, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. In Kharkiv Oblast, one person was killed and 40 others were injured, including three children, as the city and seven other settlements came under attack, according to Governor Oleh Syniehubov.

Russian strikes on Zaporizhzhia Oblast injured 20 people and damaged at least 64 houses and apartment buildings, according to Governor Ivan Fedorov. In Donetsk Oblast, three civilians were killed – two in Oleksiyevo-Druzhkivka and one in Novotroitske – and 10 more were injured, reported Governor Vadym Filashkin.

Four people were killed and four more injured in Sumy Oblast, as reported by the local administration. In Kherson Oblast, one person was killed and four others injured in attacks on residential areas and public infrastructure, damaging two apartment buildings and 17 houses, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast experienced three injuries from Russian attacks using first-person-view (FPV) drones, as stated by Governor Serhii Lysak. The wave of attacks comes amid Russia’s refusal to accept a ceasefire and the increasing use of drone and missile strikes against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.

The military repelled the overnight assault using aircraft, electronic warfare, mobile fire groups, and missile defense systems. Despite the extensive damage, Ukrainian forces have managed to defend against the attacks, demonstrating their ability to withstand ongoing military pressure.

President Donald Trump has commented on the situation, stating, ‘They have to be able to defend themselves.’ He emphasized the need for additional weapons shipments to Ukraine to counter the ongoing threats from Russian attacks.
