A Texas man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to kill President Donald Trump, bringing renewed attention to the issue of presidential security in the United States. The Department of Justice confirmed the arrest on Thursday, stating that the individual made the threatening remarks on a local news outlet’s Facebook page ahead of Trump’s upcoming visit to the Texas Hill Country. This visit is particularly significant as the state continues to recover from recent severe flooding that has caused widespread damage and displacement.
The alleged threat was made by Robert Herrera, 52, who used the username ‘Robert Herrer’ on the social media platform. In his post, he referenced the 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was shot in the ear. His comment was accompanied by a photo of the president at that time, and he reportedly responded to a challenge with a statement indicating he would come for Trump, accompanied by a picture of an assault rifle and loaded magazines.
This incident comes just days after the Secret Service suspended six agents following an internal review of their handling of the security at the Butler rally. The probe has raised serious questions about the agency’s preparedness and response to potential threats. The investigation also led to the resignation of the Secret Service director at the time, Kimberly Cheatle, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Other recent incidents have included the arrest of a second gunman who was found setting up a shooting position on the perimeter of a Florida golf course owned by Trump. Additionally, in a separate case, a Mexican man named Ramon Morales-Reyes was arrested for threatening to kill the president with a handwritten letter, though he was later released after another suspect confessed to writing the letter to frame him for deportation purposes.
