Iran Claims President Pezeshkian Injured in Israeli Airstrike

Iran’s Fars news agency claimed that President Masoud Pezeshkian, the leader of Iran, was injured in an Israeli airstrike last month. The incident is said to mirror the attack that resulted in the death of Hezbollah leader Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, which was carried out by Israeli forces in September.

According to the report, the airstrike occurred on June 16 at a secure government facility in Western Tehran, where Pezeshkian was holding a meeting with other senior officials. The attack involved six bombs or missiles targeting entry and exit points to block evacuation attempts and disrupt airflow inside the building. Power was also cut to the targeted floor after the blasts. The officials reportedly escaped through an emergency hatch, and Pezeshkian and several others suffered minor leg injuries during their escape.

The strike coincided with the fourth day of the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, which concluded with a U.S.-brokered cease-fire following Israel’s military strikes on Iran’s top military leaders and nuclear scientists, and a subsequent U.S. stealth strike on three of Iran’s nuclear enrichment sites.
