Johnson Announces Fall Rollout of Trump-Megabills to Address Biden’s Policy Legacy

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has outlined a detailed plan for additional ‘Trump megabills,’ with the first potentially arriving this fall as Republicans continue to advance their legislative agenda through reconciliation bills in the absence of Democratic support. Johnson, in an interview with Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, emphasized that these bills are a critical step toward addressing the ‘mess’ left by the Biden-Harris administration. He described the recent passage of the $3.3 trillion comprehensive bill as the ‘first big step’ in fulfilling the Republican vision. However, he made it clear that more bills are on the horizon, with at least two, and possibly three, reconciliation measures planned over the coming year.

The Louisiana representative told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that the party’s strategy is to push forward on the legislative agenda without the need for Democratic consensus, a move that aligns with the party’s broader shift toward a more partisan approach. In a previous interview, Johnson stated that the Democratic leadership is ‘in no appetite to fix any of the mess,’ prompting the GOP to take the initiative to ‘do it ourselves.’ This approach involves passing legislation through the House with only Republican support, allowing the party to implement its agenda without the need for bipartisan cooperation. Johnson also outlined plans for a series of rescission packages, designed to recover funds and address waste, fraud, and abuse within federal spending, as part of the effort to restore fiscal responsibility.

The recent passage of the ‘big, beautiful’ bill, signed into law by President Trump on July 4th, marked a sweeping victory for his second-term agenda. This legislation not only solidifies Trump’s 2017 tax cuts but also bolsters funding for defense and border security. Additionally, the bill includes new tax deductions to cut duties on tips and overtime pay, reflecting the administration’s focus on reducing the financial burden on businesses and workers. Johnson reiterated that the party will continue to codify President Trump’s executive orders into legislation, stating that ‘we have a lot more work ahead of us.’ These developments underscore the Republicans’ commitment to advancing their vision of economic and policy reform without the cooperation of the opposing party.
