The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) reported that an Iranian movement, known as the ‘Blood Covenant,’ has allegedly raised over $40 million as a reward for the assassination of former President Donald Trump. The organization’s website displayed a poster of Trump with a crosshair, accompanied by a call for donations from supporters. The accompanying Quranic text urges people to use their ‘wealth and lives’ in the name of ‘Allah.’ MEMRI states that this is a form of religious incitement, describing it as an invitation to jihad.
The threat emerges amid heightened tensions, including the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. MEMRI noted that these calls have intensified in recent days, allegedly in response to a perceived threat from Trump, who had threatened to assassinate Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, although he later denied this. The group claims that Iranian religious leaders have issued fatwas – religious edicts – stating that Trump is an ‘enemy of Allah’ and thus deserving of death. The movement is described as an example of widespread institutional support within Iran for the idea of Trump’s assassination.
The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) has claimed that an Iranian national, a former employee of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting – the regime’s main propaganda network – is in charge of the ‘Blood Covenant’ website. MEMRI added that these threats are not only originating from top-level clerics but also echo through the general public, including within the Iranian media. They emphasized that this indicates a broad consensus across religious and institutional structures regarding the necessity of executing Trump.
