The initiative, known as Make America Healthy Again (MAHA), aims to address public health concerns by encouraging the food industry to adopt healthier practices. USDA Secretary Brook Rollins, FDA Commissioner Dr. Mary Makary, and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced the agreement at a press conference, emphasizing the importance of natural ingredients in food products. The move involves eliminating artificial colors from dairy and ice cream products, a step that has already seen participation from major food manufacturers. Michael Dykes, CEO of the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), highlighted the reduction of sugar in school meals and noted that over 40 companies have committed to this initiative. The FDA has also approved several natural food dyes, such as galdieria extract blue and calcium phosphate, supporting the shift away from artificial additives. The initiative has garnered support from dairy farmers and industry leaders, including Sam Schwoeppe from Indiana, who emphasized the nutritional benefits of whole milk and dairy products. The goal is to promote healthier eating habits, particularly among children, by providing nutritious and wholesome food options.
