A new labor-backed coalition, Battleground Alliance PAC, has announced a $50 million commitment to assist Democrats in reclaiming control of the House in the 2024 midterm elections. The group is targeting 37 Republican-held districts across the country, aiming to broaden the Democratic base and position the party to capitalize on potential electoral momentum.
Despite needing only to flip three seats to secure House control, the PAC’s leaders emphasize the importance of expanding the party’s presence, stating that the effort is designed to strengthen Democratic influence for future contests. The strategy will focus on mobilizing underrepresented demographics, particularly young voters and communities of color, through door-to-door canvassing and direct outreach.
Building on the success of the Batt, ground New York model, the PAC aims to replicate similar outcomes in other states, including Minnesota’s 2nd congressional district, where Rep. Angie Craig is stepping down to pursue a Senate seat. The campaign will leverage the recent passage of a controversial bill under President Donald Trump as a rallying point for its organizing efforts.
SEIU president April Verrett emphasized that the campaign’s focus on working-class communities is part of a broader strategy to demand accountability from politicians who have failed to address critical social issues. The coalition, composed of over 30 progressive and labor organizations, is led by strategist Stephanie Porta, who has extensive experience in state-level liberal campaigns.
The PAC’s efforts come amid a challenging political landscape, with Democrats facing the need to energize a base that has become increasingly disillusioned with Washington’s political establishment. By targeting key districts with high potential for shift, the group hopes to create a durable advantage for the Democratic Party in the midterms.
