Grand Juror Faces Charges for Leaking Confidential Information in Karen Read Case

A grand juror in a federal proceeding related to the Karen Read case in suburban Boston has been charged with leaking confidential information about closed-door hearings. Jessica Leslie has already agreed to a plea deal that includes a single-day sentence, for which she will be credited time served, along with two years of probation, as per court records. The case was filed on July 11, and she signed the plea deal three days later. The leak of information violates a judge’s order from May 26, 2022, which forbade sharing details of the grand jury proceedings. Among the leaked information were the names of witnesses and details of their testimony, which were under seal. The recipients of the leaks are undisclosed in court records. The case, which is related to Karen Read, was previously associated with her acquittal on murder charges in a second trial. Read is still facing a wrongful death lawsuit brought by O’Keefe’s family, who allege she changed her story and caused emotional distress. The O’Keefes filed the lawsuit in August 2024, which is on hold until Read’s second trial ended. Read’s defense has sought to have the case dismissed, but the court is yet to rule.
