Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel recently opened up about his thoughts on a potential return to the NFL, revealing that he considered the possibility of a comeback but ultimately decided against pursuing it through the spring leagues. During an appearance on Logan Paul’s ‘IMPAULSIVE’ podcast, Manziel shared his internal struggle with the idea of making a return to the league. Despite the challenges he faced during his initial NFL career, including his brief tenure with the Cleveland Browns, Manziel is now 32 and believes his chances of making a meaningful return are slim.
Manziel, who was the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback at Texas A&M, had a brief stint in the NFL with the Browns from 2014 to 2015, playing in 14 games and recording seven touchdown passes and 1,675 passing yards. However, his NFL career was short-lived, and he soon moved to the Canadian Football League and the Alliance of American Football in an attempt to continue his career. Despite these efforts, the idea of returning to the NFL through the spring leagues, such as the UFL or XFL, was not appealing to him. He acknowledged that his chances at this stage in his career are significantly diminished and that the process would be challenging.
During the interview, Manziel discussed the potential path forward, noting that while he considered the possibility of working out again and throwing the football around to see if he could still get himself in shape, the idea of going back through the spring leagues was not something he was willing to undertake. His agent had suggested exploring opportunities in the UFL or XFL, but Manziel was clear that he was unwilling to go through that process again. He expressed the sentiment that at 32, his chances of making a meaningful impact in the NFL are very limited.
