Former ‘Golden Bachelor’ star Gerry Turner has criticized new lead Mel Owens for his controversial decision to eliminate contestants aged 60 and over, stating that this approach would ultimately be detrimental to Owens’ personal experience. Turner, who previously hosted the show and was married to contestant Theresa Nist, believes that Owens would be ‘cheating himself’ by ignoring the grace, confidence, and unique characteristics of older women. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Turner expressed his hope that Owens would reconsider his stance, as he believes that the show would benefit significantly from including women of all ages.
During an appearance on the ‘In The Trenches’ podcast, Owens described his initial preferences for contestants, stating that he was interested in women aged 45 to 60. However, he later claimed that he would cut any woman over 60 from the competition, despite producer pushback. He also emphasized the importance of contestants being in good shape, advising them to work out and avoid artificial hip replacements or wigs. Owens expressed confidence that there would be no need for such modifications, as he believed there were ‘amazing women out there.’
Turner, who was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer last year, has found a new love and is living life to the fullest, stating that he now embraces opportunities rather than rejecting them. He recently started dating Indiana native Lana Sutton and has expressed happiness with his current life situation, emphasizing the importance of having a supportive partner who is fully committed.
