Transparency International Ukraine, a prominent public organization, has issued a call to the Verkhovna Rada, urging lawmakers to reject bill No. 12414. This proposed legislation seeks to amend the criminal procedure code to address how missing persons cases are investigated under martial law. The organization is concerned that these amendments could undermine the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
The call for rejection comes as the Verkhovna Rada prepares to consider the bill. Transparency International Ukraine argues that the proposed changes may strip these anti-corruption bodies of their autonomy, potentially leading to biases or conflicts of interest in the investigation of missing persons cases. The group emphasizes the importance of maintaining the integrity and independence of these institutions to ensure fair and impartial justice.
