House Republicans are launching a new select subcommittee to investigate the January 6 Capitol attack, led by Rep. Barry Loudermilk. The effort, which has been delayed for months due to jurisdictional disputes, gained momentum after White House intervention allowed Loudermilk to chair the subcommittee and issue subpoenas. Loudermilk emphasized the panel would review security and intelligence failures and requested materials not disclosed by the Democratic-led Jan. 6 committee. Although the focus of the probe was not immediately clear, the Georgia Republican said the panel would work to uncover the full truth about the attack and address any false narratives. Loudermilk introduced the resolution establishing the committee as lawmakers left for their August recess, with the House set to vote on it when they return to Washington. House Speaker Mike Johnson praised the effort, stating that the resolution would enable Republicans to continue their work in uncovering the full truth about the attack.
