NABU Concludes Investigation into Former PrivatBank Owner

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has concluded its investigation into Ihor Kolomoisky, the former ultimate beneficial owner of PrivatBank, and five individuals associated with his organization. The probe revealed allegations of embezzling over UAH 2.6 billion in bank funds. NABU and the State Anti-Corruption Prosecution Service (SAPO) have opened case files against these individuals, suggesting potential legal action.

PrivatBank, one of Ukraine’s largest banks, was under state control for a significant period following the 2014 Euromaidan protests. Kolomoisky, who was a prominent business figure in Ukraine, was found to have misappropriated substantial funds during his tenure as the bank’s owner. The investigation highlights ongoing efforts to address corruption and financial irregularities within Ukrainian financial institutions.

The findings of the NABU investigation could lead to legal proceedings against Kolomoisky and the other accused individuals. This case underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in the banking sector, particularly in a country that has faced significant challenges with corruption. The Ukrainian government continues to work on reforms aimed at strengthening financial oversight and ensuring the integrity of its banking system.
