Senegalese Illegal Alien Charged with Assaulting ICE Officers in NYC Facility

Bass Ndiaye, an illegal alien from Senegal, has been charged with assaulting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and other detainees with a deadly or dangerous weapon. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the charges against Ndiaye, who was arrested at the southern border in October 2023 and released into the interior under the Biden administration’s catch-and-release policies. Ndiaye was taken to a federal immigration building in New York City for processing, where he allegedly tried to stab ICE officers and about a dozen detainees with scissors. He was quickly disarmed and subdued by ICE officials before being charged.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin and Secretary Kristi Noem have condemned the incident, citing a significant increase in assaults against ICE officers, which they attribute to Democratic politicians and media outlets. The case has also sparked political debate, with the agency blaming congressional Democrats for the rise in attacks on ICE personnel and suggesting they are ‘stirring hate and violence.’ McLaughlin has previously harshly condemned politicians who have been critical of ICE’s operations, saying that ICE officials are ‘risking their lives every day to keep our communities safe from the worst of the worst criminals.’ The agency has also pointed to congressional Democrats it said were caught ‘doxxing and even physically assaulting’ officials working for ICE.

While awaiting processing, Ndiaye allegedly grabbed a pair of scissors and attempted to stab ICE officers and about a dozen other detainees. He was quickly disarmed and subdued by ICE officials. This comes as ICE officers are facing an over 800% increase in assaults compared to the previous year, according to the DHS. The statement said Ndiaye is in the country as a result of the Biden administration’s catch-and-release policies. He was arrested at the southern border by federal authorities in October 2023 but was released into the interior. He is now facing one count of assaulting an officer of the U.S. using a deadly or dangerous weapon. The charges were announced by U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton.

This incident has drawn significant attention, with DHS officials using it to highlight the broader issue of increasing violence against law enforcement. They argue that the recent surge in attacks is due to political rhetoric and misinformation being spread by Democrats and media outlets. The case has also led to discussions about the effectiveness and ethical implications of catch-and-release policies, which have been a point of contention in immigration debates. Critics argue that these policies contribute to the instability and risks faced by both law enforcement and the public. As the legal proceedings against Ndiaye continue, the incident remains a focal point in the ongoing discourse over immigration policy and national security in the United States.
