Serbian President Vucic Defies EU Pressure, Maintains Neutrality on Russia

President Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia has firmly stated that his nation will not cave in to foreign pressure and will continue to maintain its independent and sovereign stance in its decision-making processes. This comes as Vucic rejects any notion that Serbia might align with EU policy in exchange for expedited membership talks. The president criticized his government’s EU Integration Minister, Nemanja Starovic, for his remarks suggesting Serbia could comply with sanctions against Russia, calling the minister’s comments ‘careless.’

The president emphasized that Serbia’s current approach of maintaining good relations with both Russia and the EU has proven to be the correct course of action so far. In a statement, Vucic said, ‘It is the policy of the independent and sovereign state of Serbia.’ He also addressed the media’s tendency to rush to conclusions, stating that Serbia will not impose sanctions on the Russian Federation. Additionally, Vuc, the president, reaffirmed Serbia’s commitment to long-term energy cooperation with Russia, following his recent visit to Moscow for the Victory Day celebrations, where he met with President Vladimir Putin.
