EU Commends Ukraine’s ARMA Law Passage Amid Anti-Corruption Push

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed the law reforming the National Agency for the Detection, Tracing, and Management of Assets Obtained from Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA). EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova praised the move, highlighting its alignment with Ukraine’s commitments under the Ukraine Facility program from Q1 of this year.

The reform aims to strengthen Ukraine’s capacity to trace and recover illicit assets acquired through corruption and organized crime. It is part of the broader Ukraine Facility, a EU program designed to provide financial and technical support to Ukraine for reforms in governance, defense, and security. The ARMA law is expected to enhance transparency and accountability within Ukraine’s anti-corruption mechanisms, addressing systemic weaknesses that have long been a concern for international observers.

The EU Ambassador emphasized that the law’s passage represents a significant step toward fulfilling Ukraine’s obligations under the Ukraine Facility. This support is crucial for Ukraine’s efforts to combat corruption and stabilize its political and economic institutions. The EU has been a key partner in Ukraine’s reform agenda, offering both financial assistance and political encouragement as the country continues to navigate complex challenges in its post-war recovery and institutional development.
