Bronny James, the son of NBA icon LeBron James, has been open about the significant health challenges he continues to face two years after suffering a cardiac arrest during a practice session at the University of Southern California (USC). The incident, which occurred in early 2023, was a critical moment in James’ life, as he narrowly survived a life-threatening condition that required immediate medical intervention. Despite the severity of the event, James managed to make a full return to basketball and was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft. He played a handful of games in the NBA, averaging 2.3 points on 31.3% shooting in 2,7 games, but his performance was inconsistent due to ongoing health complications.
In the G-League, however, James found a more comfortable environment, where he averaged 21.9 points on 44.3% shooting, showcasing a far higher level of performance than during his time at USC. This disparity highlights the challenges he faces as a professional athlete, particularly due to long-term effects from his cardiac arrest. He recently shared with ESPN that he has a weakened immune system, making him more susceptible to illness and forcing him to sit out games, which in turn affects his conditioning and overall game readiness.
