Cowboys’ Micah Parsons Requests Trade Amid Teammate Support
Dallas Cowboys’ defensive star Micah Parsons has requested a trade, a move that has sparked solidarity from his teammates. The 26-year-old linebacker, known for his elite pass-rushing ability, has been with the Cowboys since being selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Parsons, who has accumulated 52.5 sacks in 63 career games, said he had done everything possible to remain with the Cowboys, including staying quiet in hopes of resolving the contract negotiations. However, he feels the team has failed to show interest in a contract extension after his third season, when he first became eligible for one. ‘I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present,’ he wrote. ‘I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates.’ The Cowboys have not yet responded to his trade request, and Parsons has stated his attention now turns to the 2024 season.
His team has rallied behind him, with fellow star CeeDee Lamb, along with corners Trevon Diggs and DeMarvion Overshown, and linebacker Juanyeh Thomas, changing their profile pictures to feature Parsons on social media. Lamb’s support was particularly notable, as he wrote, ‘Never fails dawg. Just pay the man what you owe em. No need for the extra curricular.’ This public support underscores the camaraderie within the team and the strong bond between Parsons and his teammates.
Parsons’ decision to pursue a trade has also raised questions about the Cowboys’ management and their communication with their star players. While the team did not comment on his request publicly, his post has generated significant attention, suggesting that the club is in a difficult position.
