Tony Buzbee, Legal Counsel for Shannon Sharpe’s Accuser, Comments on Past Allegations

Tony Buzbee defended his involvement in the highly-publicized case involving Shannon Sharpe, stating that the litigation was worth his time and denying claims of targeting Black men. The former NFL Hall of Famer, now a national television personality, was accused of assault, sexual assault, battery, and sexual battery. His accuser was seeking $50 million in damages.

The dispute became contentious, with Sharpe labeling the allegations a ‘shakedown.’ He and his legal team released potentially incriminating messages allegedly sent by the accuser. Despite the public clash, the parties settled last month, and Buzbee expressed that both sides acknowledged a long-term, tumultuous relationship.

Following the settlement, Sharpe was let go from ESPN, and Buzbee took a final, lighthearted jab at the former athlete. Buzbee insisted he did not seek out Sharpe for legal action and found his public outbursts entertaining. He emphasized that his work involves pursuing legitimate cases, such as those against prominent figures like Deshaun Watson and Jay-Z.

Buzbee’s past work includes representing numerous accusers against high-profile individuals, with all but one case ending in settlement. He refuted the claim of targeting Black men, citing his lawsuit against BP as an example of a legitimate legal pursuit. Sharpe, who enjoyed his brief stint at ESPN, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, which allowed him to expand his audience through his engaging commentary.
