Musk-Backed PAC Promotes GOP Tax Bill Despite Founder’s Criticism

Building America’s Future, a political action committee (PAC) backed by Elon Musk, has launched a $1 million ad campaign to promote the newly passed GOP tax cut bill, despite Musk’s public criticism of the legislation as ‘utterly insane and destructive.’ The ad, set to air on Fox News, highlights the White House’s accomplishments, including the extension of 2017 tax cuts and the passage of a broader GOP domestic policy package. However, Musk had previously denounced the bill, calling it a ‘disgusting abomination’ during its congressional deliberations, and vowed to fight its passage by funding primary campaigns for Republican opponents. This divergence between Musk’s public stance and the PAC’s messaging has sparked debate about the motivations behind BAF’s support for the legislation.

The ad, titled ‘Independence,’ is expected to debut on Monday, with its script emphasizing the benefits of the GOP’s ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill,’ which includes tax cuts for working families, increased child tax credits, and reduced taxes for seniors. The PAC, however, has defended the legislation as a major achievement for economic growth, with senior advisor Generra Peck stating, ‘President Trump, Leader John Thune, and Speaker Mike Johnson all showed tremendous strength and vision to get historic tax cuts for working families across the finish line this summer, and their remarkable achievement will put America on a path to prosperity for years to come.’ This rhetoric aims to frame the bill as a pro-growth policy, even as critics argue it includes significant cuts to Medicaid funding.

Musk’s public stance on the bill has been a source of tension with the PAC. In June, Trump threatened to cut Musk’s government contracts over their escalating feud, and Musk, in a prescient statement, reportedly warned that Trump was involved in the Jeffrey Epstein files. Despite these tensions, BAF continues to defend the legislation, suggesting that its alignment with the PAC’s messaging may be a strategic move to bolster its own influence in the political landscape. The ad campaign reflects the complex interplay between corporate interests and political strategy, as Musk’s PAC leverages its backing to support a policy that its founder has openly criticized.
