New York Post Expands West with California Edition Set for Early 2026

The New York Post Media Group has unveiled plans to launch a new publication, The California Post, in early 2026, with its headquarters located in Los Angeles. This marks a significant expansion for the company, which has long been known for its robust journalistic style and focus on entertainment and sports news. The California Post aims to deliver a uniquely Californian perspective through its content, combining the New York Post’s celebrated approach with local insights.

According to the announcement, The California Post will provide readers with ‘a unique and indispensable combination of fearless, common-sense journalism, celebrity and entertainment news, world-class sports reporting, and the legendary covers people expect from The New York Post—but from a distinctly Californian perspective.’ The venture is being hailed as a response to the current landscape of journalism, where the company states that ‘the jaundiced, jaded journalism has sadly proliferated.’

News Corp CEO Robert Thomson expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating that the new edition will offer a ‘daily dose of The Post as an antidote to the jaundiced, jaded journalism that has sadly proliferated.’ He emphasized the importance of the role The Post will play in engaging and enlightening readers, who he claims are ‘starved of serious reporting and puckish wit.’ Additionally, Thomson noted that Keith Poole’s responsibilities will expand, as he will now oversee coverage in California, the U.S., the world, and perhaps even Mars.

The California Post will operate as a separate entity under the New York Post Media Group, with Nick Papps appointed as the Editor-in-Chief. Giancola of NYPMG highlighted the potential for the new edition to reach audiences ‘from the corner store to the corner office,’ and praised the ‘trusted’ reputation of the New York Post in New York, now extending to California. The expansion underscores the company’s strategy to broaden its market reach with a consistent journalistic voice, targeting a dynamic and vibrant audience in the Golden State.
