Democratic Socialists of America Leader Admits Role in Zohran Mamdani’s Campaign
In a recent panel discussion organized by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), leaders openly admitted their extensive involvement in the campaign of New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, claiming that their collaboration has positioned the organization to ‘seize state power.’ The discussion, titled ‘United Struggles: Resistance to Bodily Autonomy Restrictions,’ took place in July and highlighted the DSA’s close integration with Mamdani’s campaign, including contributions to his platform and sustained collaboration with his team.
The conversation was first uncovered by Stu Smith of the Manhattan Institute. During the panel, DSA organizer Daniel Goulden detailed how the DSA has worked closely with Mamdani, particularly on his ‘trans rights’ platform, which aims to use city resources to provide free transgender treatments across the country. Goulden emphasized that the campaign and organization are extremely aligned, which he believed has been critical to Mamdani’s policy rollout success, attributing it specifically to the DSA’s involvement. He described the DSA’s presence as ‘intimate,’ with regular meetings, friends on his team, and a campaign manager he has worked with for over a year.
According to Mamdani’s campaign website, his proposed administration would make NYC an LGBTQIA+ Sanctuary City and allocate $65 million in city funds to expand access to ‘gender affirming care.’ This would include $57 million directed to public hospitals, community clinics, and federally qualified health centers, with an additional $8 million allocated to pro-transgender treatment groups, both for adults and children. The website also mentions that in response to the Trump administration’s proposed elimination of federal transgender treatment funding, Mamdani’s plan would provide support to such groups.
Goulden’s remarks were part of a broader discussion on leveraging local government power for social policy, particularly in the context of bodily autonomy restrictions. He suggested that New York City could use its resources not only to provide transgender treatments to New Yorkers but also to people from other states where such treatments might be illegal, utilizing telehealth and prescription mailing as viable means.
Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani for comment, but no response was received. As the mayoral race approaches, the extent of DSA’s influence in shaping policies and the potential implications for New York City policy remain a significant point of interest.
